Dr Arati Nandi

Ph.D. in Geography from University of Calcutta (with UGC scholarship). Joined Anthropological Survey of India, Govt. of India in1976 as Human Ecologist and worked till 1979. After sabbatical taken for about 12 years pursued Post-doctoral study in 1991 with UGC scholarship in the Geography department, Calcutta University and soon thereafter started working as free-lance consultant in various assignments in research oriented studies and projects. Main focus of her works and assignments is centred around socioeconomic development, poverty reduction, community participation, resettlement and rehabilitation and gender development. Study and work among Indigenous peoples in relation with their issues, concerns and resettlement, is a major thrust area of my research study and assignment. Since 1998 had been engaged in International Financial Institutions (IFI) like Asian Development Bank, World Bank – funded projects in various sectors – like mining, highways, water supply, sanitation, urban Smart cities development, tourism and energy. Since 2007 been engaged intermittently as social safeguards and social development and Gender specialist with Asian Development Bank. Had published nine books, articles and monographs besides project reports. Have work experience in India, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Nepal. Being associated with PRISM as Life Member and national volunteer. She is Life Member of i) Geographical Society of India, and ii) Professional Institute for Development and Socio Environmental Management – PRISM and iii) Member, Board of Governors, Institute of Engineer (India), Rural Development Forum. She has eight published articles including one monograph and jointly authored two research publications.
