This project involved conducting a Social Impact Assessment (SIA) for resettlement and rehabilitation (R&R) and corporate social responsibility (CSR) planning for the Tara Coal Block (East & West) in Asansol, West Bengal. Spanning from November 2018 to March 2019, the project aimed to assess the social impacts of coal mining activities and devise strategies to mitigate adverse effects while enhancing community welfare through targeted CSR initiatives.

Our Approach

The approach included initiating a thorough social impact assessment through comprehensive data collection methods such as household surveys, public consultations, and focus group discussions. This analysis informed the development of a detailed Resettlement and Rehabilitation Plan, ensuring that displaced communities received adequate housing, infrastructure, and support for livelihood restoration. Additionally, a CSR strategy was implemented to address critical community needs, including improvements in healthcare, education, and skill development. Ongoing stakeholder engagement was emphasized, with consistent updates and consultations with government agencies, local communities, and other stakeholders to maintain transparency and inclusiveness throughout the project.
